Intersex Inclusion

Standing in allyship by supporting and amplifying intersex‑led organisations

Intersex Inclusion

We are proud to stand alongside intersex‑led organisations to strengthen inclusion and celebrate the voices of intersex people.

Following extensive consultation with our members, community stakeholders, and intersex‑led organisations, including InterAction (prev. Intersex Human Rights Australia (IHRA)) and Intersex Peer Support Australia (IPSA), our strategic approach focuses on allyship and collaboration.

Rather than leading advocacy or resource development, we are committed to amplifying the work of intersex‑led organisations and supporting their leadership. InterAction and IPSA are recognised as the experts in the lived experience of intersex people, and we are honoured to work alongside them to champion inclusion, respect, and human rights.

This approach reflects the values of The Darlington Statement and strengthens our shared commitment to creating safe, informed, and inclusive environments for all.

The Darlington Statement

The Darlington Statement is a powerful community‑led declaration that outlines the priorities, rights, and aspirations of intersex people across Australia and Aotearoa/New Zealand. It celebrates the strength and diversity of the intersex community and calls on allies to actively support intersex‑led work.

Key focus areas include:

  • Human rights and legal reform – advancing protections and ensuring intersex voices are central to decision‑making.
  • Health and wellbeing – promoting safe, informed care and supporting the long‑term physical and mental health of intersex people.
  • Peer connection and community support – strengthening networks that foster resilience, belonging, and recovery from past harm.
  • Active allyship – recognising the distinctiveness and diversity of intersex people and embracing the principle of “nothing about us without us.”

In employment, the Statement encourages:

  • Content co‑created and delivered with intersex‑led organisations.
  • Workplace adjustments and supports to ensure safe, inclusive employment.
  • Collaborative education that deepens understanding of intersex experiences and human rights.

By aligning with The Darlington Statement, ACON and Pride Inclusion Programs affirm our commitment to meaningful allyship, ensuring that intersex‑led organisations guide this vital work and that intersex voices remain at the centre of inclusion efforts.
